'Tis The Season To Be 3D

Date: December 19, 2011

Surprise a friend or family member with your own custom decoration this holiday season!

A great gift should be one of a kind and personal. Here at 3D Printers Canada, we can offer you a completely custom, one-of-a-kind gift for the holiday season.

We have made custom masks for theatre and movies before, which must comfortably conform to each individual’s unique facial features.

How does the process work?

The process begins one of two ways. We can scan your face in house here at 3D Printers Canada (or you can at home). Using one of our industry leading 3D laser scanners, we will scan your face and which will produce an STL or CAD file that our experts will work with using 3D post production software. If you don’t have a laser scanner at home, you can send us a STL or CAD file of your project. Either way, our engineers will be here to help you with expert, reliable and dedicated services through all stages of your project.

Using our 3D engineering software, we are able to resize your CAD file to meet your exact specifications. Furthermore, you can customize the finish of your product, and because of the materials used, you can add the final touches to your model by painting it. This means you can have your friends and family member’s faces the size of a tangerine or larger than life-size(bobble heads anybody?). Our engineers can also help you design an appropriate top to your model so you can make them into a decorative tree ornament (http://www.thestar.com/business/article/1087536--3d-printers-manufacture-objects-in-your-home).

The 3D printing process is an elaborate, yet simple one. Your model is printed from your CAD file layer-by-layer (as precise as 16 microns per layer, or print with speed at 30 microns per layer). Immediately after each layer is printed, each layer is cured with a UV light, causing the material to harden and, therefore, be ready for immediate use. It is durable and in some cases flexible. At 3D Printers Canada, using our Objet Connex500 3D printer we can print more than one material at once. This allows for complete customization and for the possibility of having both a rigid material and flexible material in the same object, in one easy print (for example, soft skin and hard hair). The smallest, most intricate details will be captured and printed to your liking using our industry leading technology.

Your holiday gift options don’t end at the face. Custom bobble heads, board games, toys, puzzles, jewellery holders, ornaments and cell phone cases are just some of your options – only your imagination limits your gift options!
